Take me down the nine mile road Over cannonball creek Where the Gypsies live the real life and the locals are the freaks. Did you see what happened there? Under the bridge down there There be a murder down there She was floating face down Take me down the nine mile road, Through the pouring rain You’re the one who found her and you’re the one they blame Take me down the nine mile road Find me in the drain, You’re the one who found her and you’re the one they frame

'74 Les Paul 03:41
I saw her for the first time in the summer of ‘89 She was hanging out in the store with all the beautiful girls Her body was all golden, unblemished but for one scar And she called to me like a siren’s song All the other girls disappeared from view I had eyes for her alone – I touched her neck and I fell in love with my ’74 Les Paul. She was a gold top, a deluxe I didn’t have the cash, but I had the luck I asked him to hold her so I could hold her too I scrimped and I saved, I borrowed I stole until she was mine and mine alone and my young heart was beating like a drum. She and I became one, my first real guitar, she was the girl gonna make me a star And I confess that I shared a bed with my 74 Les Paul I flew back to Melbourne from the Colorado cold headed up the Hume to my country home and we hooked up with a real loud rock and roll band. Then I married a seamstress with stars in her eyes, I was a pussywhipped long hair who drank all night and I couldn’t see the writing on the wall. Those stars in her eyes they were just dollar signs and a shiny new sports car was all she desired. The seamstress stole her away from me, my 74 Les Paul. My golden girl you know she’d gone away and the songs I’d made with her died on that day Although time’s a healer, the pain is always there. And since that time, you know I’ve played around with all sorts of guitars in all sorts of crowds, colours and shapes and tones are blurred inside. But true love’s first kiss is never denied and I sometimes still think of her late at night My all American dream, my wailing sustaining queen my gold top deluxe as tough as a Mack Truck 74 Les Paul

Call the lads together by the grand staircase First time with the eight piece, play boys play. The night is still, the moon is new lay that ragtime down Captain’s orders, calm the waters, play our immortal requiem We’ve got a job to do right now Until this big old ship goes down. Tell my Maria I’ll always be with her, tell her I stayed to the end tell her I died like a man My name is Wallace Hartley, I’m the leader of the band A handpicked group of gentlemen, making their last stand. So I rosined up my bow and played my violin A gift from my Maria, for a life that we never would begin The boat was sinking lower and then she broke in two The lads were all swept overboard, leaving me and you I closed my eyes and took a breath and faced eternity I dragged the bow across your strings, Nearer God to Thee

River Town 04:15
When I was a child everything would wash right over me, But now I’ve grown I see them swirling round and round and round In this river town. Front lawn, go home, Lakeside dusk to dawn Bike ride, heading down, disco, king brown Blown up factory, two pubs, you’ll see Keep clear, water gates, old train, always late Fight stop, winter time, bus driver serpentine Grey shirts, grey pants, foreshore romance
5.
Feet First 04:13
What’s good for him ain’t necessarily good for you Just because he broke his back don’t mean you should too. Living in fear of paying the bills ain’t no reason to stay Churning up your insides don’t forget that we were born to play So lay your upside down and your outside in, Open up your eyes and let’s begin Gold watch man on the factory floor Give ‘em your life then you’re feet first out the door Six days a week is just enough to keep you off the floor You read the signs and hear the words, but you still want some more This world of ours is upside down, we think before we feel What’s yours is yours and yours alone, You’d never beg before you’d steal
6.
A bottle of gin and a couple of pills is like a Bandaid on a severed limb When you’re feeling so empty inside The big old house is tumbling down, and walking through the rooms talking to the ghosts don’t help you deal with the here and the now. When the Black Dog’s at your door, let me know and I’ll Come Around Walk you through the haze take you to a better day I’ll Come Around So you lost your girl on the slippery slope, you’re dealing with her ex and his shed full of dope, she’s looking west and pushing you south And she opened up a box of how, but it’s good to peel the layers back before you get right down. When the black dog’s at your door, and you’re feeling all alone, keep the lid on take a breath and get on the phone I'll Come Around Crying’s for the strong, you wash it all away, takes you to a better day. I'll Come Around
7.
I could have talked to you for hours in that three star hotel I should have had a shower and damned it all to hell The room got spinning sooner and I couldn’t work out why You face turned into plasticine and your eyes got small and sly For every moment lingered, the dancing queen becomes another problem Sent by the bluestone alley bums If you want to see the devil come out tonight, when the moon and the stars are shining bright If you want to see the devil come out tonight, give me whiskey. I could see your mouth was moving, but my own thoughts filtered through Your eyes were glazed like frosted panes and I knew that mine were too The situation’s broken; the fog is falling fast I tried to make my get away; you wouldn’t let me past And for every drop of trouble, the ledger keeps you price you have to pay. A pound of dignity this time for trying to get the feel of the wave. Chorus The crowded room was looming and the carpet was dark red Faces swirled into my sight and floated through my head The cue was swinging round and round, to keep the demons out My putty head was mystery, the whispers were all shouts For every sniff of madness there’s the moment when reason goes astray And they drag you out face down, in the bluestone alleyway Chorus

This day without the demons, this sleep without a night The road is taking over, the valley’s open wide… Find the words in all the noise and the sense in all the white Down this stone road valley is where it ends Stone Road Valley, you know dead men tell no tales, Take him along with the top rolled down These ghostly horses run wild through my head Did you hear the echo, I might wind up dead Find the feel in all the grooves and the soul in all the fight Alright This day without the demons, this sleep without a night Harvest time is coming, paranoia’s high Find the time in all the notes and the feel inside the night

Time shows that the deadliest foe will meet us in the grey still afternoon, a change is coming soon. Look under rocks and peek behind trees, a falling star is waiting on the phone, I'll find my way back home Clattering tractors and dirty old sheds, through the window's my unmade bed, what's he done and where's my family gone? He sits in bitterness and drinks in shame, it's easier to find someone to blame, when you're a million miles away. I'll follow you there I'll follow you down, I'll chase you to the edge of town, I'm sorry that I ever called you friend. I'll follow you up, I'll follow you back, all you've done you can't take back and you'll never darken my front door again. He fell asleep on the couch one night I put a beer in one hand, a lit cigarette in the other - one life for another. I went along to the cemetery, tried my best to look contrary but I smiled, 'cos I watched him die.

Where do you go, what do you think, tell me what do you know, tell me all, catch your breath when you’re on the night train to the city of death. Looking for the reasons, exploding through the night The senses are all reeling, the beaten path to life or right, a sleepless fight, on the line Wondering and asking, white eyes flashing by Wallah’s calls are mournful, the Sikh chose not to find, the friend in me, set me free, with your light
13.
Roll right over the fat man, take me down to baba lu, Drop me in this heaving mass me and the night train are through Loading up the saviours, wide eyed in the street, Point the finger lose your shoulder, everyone you meet He’s got the last smile on his lips and he said We’re walking in a dream within a dream Here we are, then we live and then we melt again… Come to meet your maker, let me take you round Getting by on faith alone in this half finished town All roads to redemption, never was a time when you didn’t know how Master’s in the alley waiting for your vow. Then we cry then we give then we hide then we pray then we hope someday. Crazy lazy, fast and slow your dying lets you grow And when your world is falling free, love will come and you will see

I'm tired of the truth manipulators I'm tired of the backroom operators I'm weary of the lies, I've had enough of spies I just want the truth I want to take the spin out of the game I want the pie to cut and come again Look me in the eye, tell me how and tell me why I just want the truth I’ve had enough of wordy obfuscation Of pitching to a voting generation Of trying to appease the forest for the trees I just want the truth You’re lining up to push your own agenda, I think that everyone would feel better If you all came clean and told us where it’s at, say what’s really so, ‘cos you and I both know that your mouth is filled with flies when a lie ends in a lie ends in a lie ends in a lie I’m tired of defensive allegations Of social networks and their situations That allow you to become anyhow and anyone I just want the truth I’m finished with the lobbies and their words Their research and the weasel worded slurs The waxy faces flinch when you get them in a pinch I just want the truth I wonder if we’ll ever see the day When everyone will know that what they say Is for the highest good, not just for the selfish few I just want the truth
