lyrics

John and Mick were brothers from the wrong side of the tracks
They grew up on the edge of town with mangy dogs and feral cats
Their old man was a drunkard, their mother was on pills,
Juvenile and divvy vans, the little boys grew up, hiding and lying fighting and stealing, trying anything to replace that love that they never got
John was two years older and Mick looked up to him, whatever shit he got into, Mick fell in twice as deep.
One or two assaults, a couple of stolen cars, the little boys well hid within were fast becoming stars of the court room, hiding and lying fighting and stealing, trying anything to replace that love that they never got

Cos John, I’d really love to see you, but it’s just not worth my while
I was thinking mid-September brother but I can’t do it for that price…

Now John’s down in Tasmania and he’s shacked up with Ayleen,
He used to be her brother in law but prison cleared that scene.
He held her close late one night, when Mick was in dhurringile,
Brothers then in blood alone; brothers twice denied
He broke the news on the scratchy phone, hiding and lying fighting and stealing, trying anything to replace that love that they never got.
